End of year – memories and goodbyes

It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of another school year and that the summer holidays are almost on top of us. This term has been busier than ever .

I think that two things will stand out for me when I look back on the past few months. The first is the achievement of our first ever Active School Flag. Everyone in the school played a part in this especially during Active School Week. It’s great to see so many people still walking and cycling to school.

The second event that stands out for me is the girls’ Cumann na mBunscol final – great see that cup back on our shelf for the second successive year. Of course the Active School and the Cumann na mBunscol are connected in many ways. The fitness of the girls on the team was commented upon, even in the match report, and all the preparation for Active School had a hand in that. Mrs. Kelly was actively involved in both and I want to thank her again for all her hard work. Thanks also to Anne (Flood) for her commitment to football in our school and for her kindness to the girls. Congratulations also to the boys’ team – it was hard to lose a final by such a narrow margin but the work rate and the spirit in that group means that I know they will be successful in future competitions. Thanks to Mr. Molloy and Mr. Flynn for training them and taking such an interest in them.

And so it’s time to say goodbye to  Áine,  Amy,  Arek, Ben, Chloe, Conor, Eibhlín, Eoin, Étáin, Grace,  Holly, Jake, Kacper, Lauren, Lauryn, Maria, Niamh, Olwyn, Rachel B, Rachel Mc, Radek, Ronan, Rory, Roslyn, Sam, Sarah, Shane, Shay, Tara, Timmy and Zaklina. You have been a great Sixth Class in every way. You’ve worked hard, behaved well, competed well, taken part, shown example and kept your sense of humour through it all. We couldn’t ask for anything more.

I wish you health, success and happiness and lots of fun in the years ahead.
