March 23rd

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all keeping well and looking after each other during this strange time. While the school is closed, I intend to use this page as a  place where you can access the information we are trying to share with you – in case you are not getting emails. If you check in now and again, you will find links to emails as well as suggestions for supplementary work that your children might enjoy. I will also try to keep you up-to-date if there is any school-related news.

At the moment, the school is silent but the work on the new building has continued up to now. I am sorry to say that the foreman tells me that they also may have to finish up this week.

In terms of schoolwork, up until Friday (27th), the children should be working on the packs that they brought home when we closed. We will be sending homework for next week on Friday. I sent an email to everyone last Wednesday (18th) and again on Friday (20th), In case you did not get them, you can follow the links below:

Websites

We sent home a list of useful websites/Apps with the children on the day we closed but there are so many available that it can be overwhelming to know which ones to use. This is why I’m highlighting one or two in my emails – I think it’s better to explore, get to know,  and use a few properly.

This is the list I’ve recommended so far:

  • www.duolingo.com – Irish
  • Seomra ranga
  • https://johnboyne.com/short-story-competition/

Today I am suggesting that you check out Folens online. We use quite a few Folens books and they are supported by online materials and resources. Here’s how you can register:

  1. Go to FolensOnline.ie and click register
  2. Select Teacher
  3. Fill in a username, email and password
  4. For Roll Number use the code:  Prim20

I am hoping to organise for parents of children in junior classes to collect workbooks which the children fill in at school – this might save you some of the printing you are having to do at the moment. I want to ensure that this can be done safely with a minimum of contact. I will let you know what arrangement I’m putting in place over the next few days.

Please watch out for an email on Friday which will contain work for the children for next week.  You can also check in here regularly to see what information it contains – I will post any emails that I send on this page.

Most importantly, take care of yourselves and your loved ones by taking the advice of the HSE.

Thank you to those of you who are keeping our vital services going.
